Cosmetic Dentistry Q & A
What is cosmetic dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry aims to improve your smile and dental health through advanced dental services. If your confidence has been dinged by the appearance of your dull or misshapen teeth, cosmetic dentistry will give your smile new life. Services like veneers and implants can give you corrected teeth that are easier to keep clean, and a head-turning smile.
How do veneers work?
Veneers are custom-made shells that protect the surface of damaged teeth to change their color, length, shape, or size. They work well over teeth that are broken or chipped, discolored, uneven, oddly shaped, or worn down. They can also close large gaps between teeth. The process requires a few dental visits and isn’t painful.
After a mold is made of your teeth, Dr. Lane will order your veneers then apply them with a special cement. Veneers look very natural and last 7-15 years.
What are porcelain crowns?
Porcelain crowns help rebuild teeth that have been broken or weakened due to extensive decay or a large filling. They fit over the tooth that remains, making it a lot stronger and giving it a more natural shape. Unlike metal crowns, which appear silver or gold, porcelain crowns looks like your natural tooth color.
How are tooth-colored fillings different from other fillings?
Tooth-colored fillings, also called composite fillings, allow cavities to be filled without the unsightly appearance of metal. Instead of metal material, such as gold or silver, a resin composite fills the cavity. This restores the tooth’s stability and strength with a natural, virtually unnoticeable filling.
Because most fillings need to be replaced at some point, you can opt for a tooth-colored filling when a metal filling wears out. You can also go with the natural-looking option for any new fillings.
What are cerec crowns?
Cerec crowns are cutting-edge dental devices that allow you to get a needed crown the same day you learn you need one. Rather than having a mold taken, getting a temporary crown, and waiting days or more for the permanent one to be made, the whole process takes a couple of hours.
It uses a mapping technology to create an accurate, detailed crown out of a ceramic block in Dr. Lane’s office. After it’s in place, you can treat it like a natural tooth – eating, brushing and flossing as usual.
